This has been going around for a few years now, and I saw it “for the first time ever” on TV last night again. Surely this can’t still be considered a secret if it has been in the public domain for so long and so often?
If this is your first day on the internet, here they are again, but bear in mind, I’m not sure they’re even valid now after all the exposure, perhaps they have changed them, or mixed them up, since word got out…
You need to look at the 2nd line of the price label, below the address, and it a single digit, as shown in our image. This is what 3 of those numbers mean;
1 = Produced for TK Maxx, just what you would expect to see in a TK Maxx store. It may still be branded, but will usually be slightly different (cheaper/inferior) to that same brand when sold through official retailers, so as to protect the brand.
2 = What they call “Closeout”, bought in from another retailer, and originally sold at a much higher price. This is likely to be genuine, top quality goods, bought as unsold overstock or from out-of-business competitors.
7 = Off or old season stock, this is stock that they have bought at the wrong time (on purpose) just to get it cheaper, to then hold on to it until the correct season for it comes around again. The example given is buying unsold Xmas crackers in January, and holding on to them until they are in demand again.
So there you have it, 2 is the biggest bargain, but only if you actually wanted or needed it in the first place! And no, we don’t know what the other numbers mean either, sorry.
